With more than 5,000 independently run local programs, Meals on Wheels helps senior citizens maintain healthy lives through proper nutrition. The organization aids individuals with diminished mobility by offering home delivery services every day. In 2014, Meal on Wheels served 2.5 million seniors.
During that same year, the nonprofit helped lead an initiative that restored nearly $50 million in federal funding, which equates to seven million meals, through the Older American Act. The organization also coordinated $1.7 million in grants that were applied to member programs. Additionally, Meals on Wheels launched a new initiative that connects elderly individuals to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Other 2014 highlights included accepting the Retirement Housing Foundation Award, receiving $110,000 in donations from the Every Cork Counts campaign, and obtaining half a million dollars from the Kellogg Twenty-Five Year Employees Fund.
